The short version
- SafeShelf is for parents and guardians aged 18 or over. Kids use it under your account.
- You choose what goes on the shelf. We don't make or review the videos.
- Videos come from YouTube, so YouTube's terms apply too.
- Watching is always free. Plus adds parent tools, billed and cancelled through your app store.
- You can delete your account at any time in Settings.
1Agreeing to these terms
These terms are an agreement between you and [Company legal name] ("we"). By creating a SafeShelf account you agree to them and to our Privacy Policy.
You must be 18 or older and a parent or legal guardian of the children you add, or have their parent's permission. You're responsible for how children use SafeShelf under your account.
2What SafeShelf does
SafeShelf lets you build a list of YouTube channels and videos, sort them into categories, and let your children watch only that list on your phones, tablets and Android TVs.
We don't make, host or review the videos. You decide what goes on the shelf. The "made for kids" label in the app comes from YouTube and can be wrong, so watch a video yourself if you're unsure. A video on your shelf can also change, be removed by its creator, or stop playing outside YouTube.
3Your account and PIN
- Sign in with Google, or Apple on iPhone and iPad. Keep that account secure.
- Keep your parent PIN away from your kids. Anyone with the PIN can change the shelf and the limits.
- Only link TVs and devices in your own home.
- Tell us if you think someone else is using your account.
4YouTube
SafeShelf uses YouTube API Services. By using SafeShelf you also agree to the YouTube Terms of Service, and Google's handling of data is covered by the Google Privacy Policy.
Videos play in YouTube's own player. YouTube may show ads in it, and SafeShelf doesn't block, skip or change them. SafeShelf is not affiliated with, endorsed by or sponsored by YouTube or Google.
5Free and SafeShelf Plus
SafeShelf is free for one child, with unlimited watching. Watching is never behind a paywall.
SafeShelf Plus is an optional subscription that adds parent tools: up to 5 children, daily limits and bedtime, the weekly report, and more friends and themes.
- You buy Plus through the Apple App Store or Google Play, and their payment terms apply.
- Plus renews automatically each month or year until you cancel. Cancel at least 24 hours before it renews in your App Store or Google Play subscription settings. Deleting the app doesn't cancel it.
- Refunds are handled by Apple or Google under their policies.
- If we change the price, we'll tell you before it applies, and you can cancel before then.
6Fair use
Please don't:
- Try to get around the PIN, limits or security of SafeShelf, or anyone else's account.
- Copy, scrape, resell or reverse engineer the app or its data.
- Use SafeShelf to download videos or play them outside YouTube's player.
- Use SafeShelf in a way that breaks the law or YouTube's terms.
7What belongs to us
The SafeShelf app, name and logo, and the friend characters Bao, Remy, Hoot and Bolt belong to us. We give you a personal, non-transferable licence to use the app for your family while these terms apply.
Videos, titles and thumbnails belong to their creators and to YouTube.
8Ending your account
You can delete your account at any time in Settings. That removes your children, shelf, linked TVs and watch history. Cancel any Plus subscription in your app store separately.
We may suspend or close an account that breaks these terms or puts children or our service at risk. Where we can, we'll tell you first and explain why.
9No guarantees
We work hard to keep SafeShelf safe and working, but we provide it "as is." We can't promise it will always be available, free of bugs, or that every video on your shelf will suit your child. SafeShelf helps you supervise. It doesn't replace you.
10Limits on liability
As far as the law allows, we aren't liable for indirect or consequential losses, or for content made by YouTube creators. Our total liability to you is limited to the amount you paid us for SafeShelf Plus in the 12 months before the claim, or USD $50 if you haven't paid anything.
Nothing in these terms limits rights you have under consumer law that can't be waived.
11Disputes
If something goes wrong, email us first and we'll try to sort it out. These terms are governed by the laws of [country and state or region], and disputes go to the courts there, unless your local consumer law says otherwise.
12Changes and contact
If we change these terms, we'll update the date at the top and tell you in the app before important changes apply. If you keep using SafeShelf after that, the new terms apply.
